Kitten Collars
Anytime you bring home a new kitten you know there are a
number of supplies you will need.
You'll need a litter box and some litter. You'll need bowls
for food and water. You'll need cat food. And chances are
you'll need a brush to keep your new pet's coat untangled and
looking good. In this list, kitten collars
often get overlooked. Don't make the mistake of thinking these
are not necessary because they are. Put one on your kitten as
soon as he or she gets to his new home.
There are a number of reasons why your new pet should have a
collar, but the biggest one is safety. Sure you plan on keeping
your kitten inside, but if there is a way to get out, chances
are your cat will find it. Without a collar there is little
chance that he will be found and brought home.
So what kind of kitten collar should you get? Well start by
getting one that fits around the neck but leaves him room to
grow. And check the collar periodically. Your new kitten will
become a full grown cat before you know it. As he grows, you'll
want to loosen the collar so he does not choke. You'll be
surprised at how fast your new pet grows so check the collar
frequently.

Just as important is to make sure it is not so loose that it
will slid off his head. Most kittens will try to get out of
their collar the first time you put it on. Make sure he can't
(again without it being too tight) and it won't be too long
before he is used to wearing it. He may work his way out once
or twice before you have the ideal setting. That's OK. Just
keep checking to make sure he has it on. If he doesn't, find it
and put it back on slightly tighter than before.
The main purpose of kitten collars is to make sure your pet
is wearing some identification. Put the tags on, and make sure
those tags clearly state the where you live and how you can be
reached. Again, cats are curious by nature, and if they find a
way to get out, you can be sure they will want to explore it.
If the tags are on and well marked, whoever finds your pet will
be able to return him safely to you.
And speaking of the tags, you'll also need to check to make
sure they are securely attached. Cats will also try to find a
way to pull them off.
Kitten collars are an important accessory if you want to
keep your new pet as safe as possible.
