Clumping Cat Litter - The Good And Bad

There are so many types of cat litter on the market. Clumping cat litter is among the most popular.

That's even though it was up against a number of the new upstarts like biodegradable litter, pine litter, clay litter and many more. It still remains popular today.

What clumping cat litter does is basically use its separate particles to clump together a cat's waste into small, brick like objects. This makes it easy for a cat owner to get rid of the waste. And anything that makes a nasty task easier will become very popular.

In addition, it was found that many cats were somewhat sensitive to standard clay litters, and refused to use the litter box as a result. Obviously frustrated, many cat owners simply gave up on their pets, leaving them outside or taking them to shelters. Clumping litter makes for a good alternative for those cats that will not, for whatever reason, use the litter box.

However some believe that clumping cat litter is unsafe for pets. Their argument is that it causes adverse affects because it does tend to kick up dust. This led to the belief that coughing resulted from using clumping cat litter and the speculation the it was harmful to cats. The truth is that traditional clay litters kick up more dust, and not a single veterinary medicine group has ever confirmed the theory that clumping cat litter is in any way dangerous.

That being said, clumping cat litter is a good product. However if after purchasing it you start to notice your cat coughing or wheezing, then go ahead a switch. In other words, try it yourself and see. Certainly no long term damage will come from trying it out, and you'll quickly determine if clumping cat litter is a good alternative for your cat.
