Cat Toys - Keeping Your Kitty Entertained
Cats are fairly moody animals. If you want a
companion who you can trust to almost always be ready to
play, you'd probably do better with a dog. Cat owners are
moody sort themselves, at least that's the stereotype,
& they own moody pet. Cats don't always play with
you, & sometimes they don't want to even know you
exist. But when they are ready for fun & games they
can be very entertaining company. They'll chase
streamers, get tangled in your yard ball, & even play
tug-of-war once in a while. Of course, the right cat toys
helps.

One of the
first things you should understand is that almost anything can
be considered a cat toy. You just need to understand cat
psychology. Cats are hunters, & stealthy ones at that. They
love to be able to sneak up on anything. As such, 1 of the most
entertaining cat toys is your basic string.
If you put
something shiny at the end of it, or if it moves up & down
in an interesting & animated way, so much the better. You
can play this game with only a simple ribbon. You hang in front
of the cat as it's squatting in the corner, trying it's best to
be discreet. It'll stalk the string, waiting for the right
opportunity to pounce. When it does, you can quickly pull the
string up & out of the cat's reach at the last moment. It
helps if you let the cat catch the cat toys every once in a
while. It keeps it entertaining & lets it know that it's
doing good.
Of course
there are cat toys that cats can play with by
themselves. Many of the most popular pet gifts are basically
variants of standard squeaky toys. The squeaky mouse is
particularly popular cat toy. I personally think that cats
don't care whether it is a rubber squeaky toy mouse, a rat
or a lion. All that matters is that there's a small animal
there that makes a noise when the cat pounces
on.
Cat toys
actually provide a useful function in addition to being fun.
When you need to take care of your cat, it's usually a good
idea to keep it distracted. With the proper grooming items, old
matted fur can be cleaned very quickly. But if the cat has
something to fiddle with & chew on while you are grooming
it, it makes things much easier for you both.
